Anti-Wrinkle Injections
At DentoBeauty we are proud to offer botulinum toxin anti-wrinkle injections to temporarily reduce facial lines caused by over expression of certain muscles.
Frown lines and crows feet are caused by a lack of collagen in the skin. Collagen wears away over time around overactive muscles and can leave the skin creased or wrinkled.
Botulinum toxin can reduce the signs of aging and also prevent hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating by blocking the nerves responsible for activating the sweat glands.

Botulinum Toxin Anti-Wrinkle Injections
What is Botulinum Toxin?
Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin and powerful poison that works by paralysing specific muscles.
It is the active ingredient in products such as Botox, which is one brand of botulinum toxin injection, but it is not the only, nor necessarily the best, brand of anti-wrinkle injections available.
Botulinum toxin injections work by preventing signals from the nerve cells reaching muscles, therefore paralyzing them.
When injected, botulinum toxin prevents the release of acetylcholine which in-turn prevents the contraction of the muscle cells.
What Anti-Wrinkle Injections Help
Botulinum toxin injections can help hide wrinkles and fine lines such as crows feet and wrinkles caused by frowning, ageing or over exposure to the sun.
At the moment, it is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments available in the UK and we are proud to be able to offer it at DentoBeauty.
Botulinum toxin can also be used to prevent excessive sweating (known as hyperhidrosis); a common problem for both men and women. It does this by blocking the nerves responsible for activating the sweat glands.
If you’re not sure whether anti-wrinkle injections are right for you, come in for a consultation and we’ll help you make an informed decision…
What Can I Expect?
Anti-wrinkle injections usually take between 10 and 20 minutes to administer depending on the area you are targeting and the amount of work required.
The needle used to administer anti-wrinkle injections is very small and we use a topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) so there shouldn’t be any pain, although you may experience slight discomfort during the treatment.
You will notice a marked improvement in your skin after 4 or 5 days, however, you will notice that your skin will become even smoother over the next month.
The effects of botulinum toxin anti-wrinkle injections will last around 3 to 4 months before it wears off. This means you will need top-up treatments to maintain your smooth skin.
The body will naturally break down the botulinum toxin and high activity lifestyles and fast metabolisms will speed this process up.
Who Should Not Use It?
Botulinum toxin should not be used where there is a local infection at the proposed injection site, or in individuals with known reactions to any of the ingredients in the injection formulation.
Patients with neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects and should avoid botulinum toxin treatments.
Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding who are currently being treated with amino glycoside antibiotics or spectinomycin should wait until they have completed their course of treatment.
