Dermaroller and Micro-Needling
Dermaroller and micro-needling treatments can drastically improve many skin problems including fine lines, deep wrinkles, crows feet, scars (including acne and chicken pox scars), stretch marks and sun damaged skin.
They do this by what is known as “collagen induction”. Collagen induction therapies such as dermaroller and micro-needling inflict a small amount of trauma to the upper layers of skin which activates the bodies natural healing response.
Read on to find out about how our dermaroller and micro-needling treatments can help rejuvenate and replenish your skin by using your body’s natural healing methods.
Heal and Grow with Dermaroller and Micro-Needling Treatments
How Does It Work?
Collagen induction therapies such as dermaroller and micro-needling treatments involve piercing lots of tiny holes in the upper layer of your skin, breaking down the old scar tissue and dead skin.
When this happens, the skin goes into healing mode and produces collagen and elastin, both essential for youthful skin. It also thickens the epidermis, the top layer of skin.
While the top layer of skin is punctured, the effectiveness of topical products such as vitamin C, E and hyaluronic acid is improved as the product is able to bypass the epidermis and be absorbed much easier.
All of this combined leaves your skin looking more radiant, youthful and smooth.
What’s the Difference Between Dermaroller and Micro-Needling?
The difference between dermaroller and micro-needing treatments is the device used to carry out the treatments.
A dermaroller is like a small paint roller with lots of micro-needles that is rubbed over the skin, whereas a micro-needling device uses the same needle repeatedly. Kind of like a tattoo gun, but nowhere near as painful as we are only breaking the surface of the skin.
The device we use is all down to what you, as the patient, are comfortable with.
Both methods achieve the same result, just in different ways.
What Can I Expect Afterwards?
Unlike treatments such as chemical peels and laser treatments, which have a recovery time of 2 – 8 weeks, the recovery time for dermaroller and micro-needling treatments is usually just a few days.
You can expect some redness immediately after treatment, but this is ok, your body needs to go into healing mode in order to promote the production of collagen and elastin.
This redness will subside within 2 – 7 days depending on the intensity of your treatments. You may also experience some skin peeling a few days following treatment.
If you have any concerns, bring them up at your appointment or contact us afterward by calling, emailing or using one of our online forms.
