What’s The Difference Between a Bridge and a Crown?
If you have three or more teeth missing in a row, or would like to replace an arch of your teeth, a bridge could be the perfect solution.
Bridges are fixed prosthetic devices that hold multiple teeth. They are ideally attached to the root of your natural teeth, however, if this is not possible, we will attach them to Dental Implants.
Crowns are porcelain shells used to replace the top of a single tooth.
Crowns are useful for saving the natural root of teeth that have fractured, discoloured, require filling where not enough tooth material is available, or have had a Root Canal Treatment. They may also be used in combination with Implants.
Although different devices, they both have the same aim; to fill the gap in your smile and prevent surrounding teeth from growing out of alignment.
How We Fix Bridges and Crowns
Your bridge or crown needs to be held securely in your mouth.
Unlike Full and Partial Dentures, bridges and crowns are fixed in place and can only be removed by a dentist. This allows you to eat normally and stops them from falling out.
Ideally, we’d like to attach your bridge or crown to your original teeth. This requires a healthy root and enough tooth material above the gum to be filed down to what is called an abutment. If this is not possible, we will use one or more Implants.

We can also replace an entire arch of your mouth, top, bottom, or both, and these will be held by an “all-on-four” or “all-on-six” setup. This means using either four or six implants to hold your full arch bridge in place.
Having Your Bridge Or Crown Fit
If you want to fix your smile with a bridge or crown, it all begins with an initial consultation at our Essex dental clinic.
When you come in for an initial consultation, we’ll go through the options available to you, and if a bridge or crown is the best option, we’ll book you in for treatment.
If you require Dental Implants these will be done first. If we’re able to use your original teeth, these will be filed down to abutments at your first treatment.
A mould is then taken of your mouth and sent to our dental milling partners. They will create your new bridge or crown, in the perfect colour and shape to match your surrounding teeth.
This process takes around five working days, during which time you will be given temporary crowns to cover the abutments in your mouth.
Once your bridge or crown is sent back to us, we’ll invite you in for the fitting.

We offer free parking to diasabled clients in our car park behind the DentoBeauty clinic. This is accessible from Brooke Road opposite the entrance to Grays High Street.
For all other clients, parking is available at the front of our clinic. Parking charges may apply.
