Root Canal Treatments at DentoBeauty

Root canal treatments can often save your from losing a tooth to infection.

Despite the popular myth, root canal treatments are not painful, and in-fact, can save you severe pain in the future.

Root canal treatments are used when the pulp in the middle of your tooth has an infection. Once the infection is present, it isn’t going anywhere, even with antibiotics.

That’s why it’s essential to have any infection dealt with as soon as possible to prevent it from spreading and costing you a tooth or two!

The Basics of Root Canal Treatment

What is Root Canal Treatment?

Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is a procedure in which the infected pulp is removed from your tooth, from the crown to the root, filled with root canal filler, then sealed with a filling or crown.

The pulp in the middle of your tooth can become infected in many different ways, whether by poor oral heath or injury.

If it does become infected, you’re in a race against time to save your tooth. Antibiotics will not help and the longer the infection is in your mouth, the further it will spread.

Root canal treatment stops the infection in its tracks and gives your tooth a robust filling that will allow you to keep your natural tooth for another 10 years.

What’s Involved In Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatments are done in stages over multiple treatments depending on the severity and the tooth involved. The procedures are done under local anesthetic so there won’t be any more pain than a regular filling.

They all begin by removing the infection. This is done by drilling the middle of the crown and vacuuming out the pulp in the tooth. If you have an abscess or infection in the gum, we will also remove this.

Next, the tooth will be drilled to enlarge the canal or canals if treating a tooth with more than one root such as molars or premolars. This is to give them a regular shape as the canals are usually very narrow and hard to fill.

Finishing A Root Canal Treatment

When you return to us to finish the root canal treatment we will begin by removing the temporary filling and checking the infection has gone.

We won’t proceed until the infection is gone, as the could lead to further spread of the infection to the gums and other teeth.

Once we are sure the infection has been taken care of, we’ll put the finishing touches on your tooth.

This involves filling your tooth with the final root canal filling and sealing your tooth. This is usually done with a filling, however, if your tooth is likely to crack or you would prefer a more aesthetically pleasing finish, we can add a crown.
