Platelet Rich Plasma – The Vampire Facial
What is Platelet Rich Plasma
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a substance extracted from blood using a centrifuge. Platelets contain a high content of “growth factors” – proteins that help to heal injured tissue or damaged skin.
When you visit us for a Platelet Rich Plasma session, we will start the procedure by extracting a small amount of your blood.
This is then put into a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells, the white blood cells, and the plasma. That’s the orange bit at the top in the picture.
This part of the blood is what helps to promote healing in the body and it can be injected in many parts of the body to give a localised benefit.

The Vampire Facial
Despite the scary name, and how the treatment sounds, the “Vampire Facial” or cosmetic platelet rich plasma therapy is pain-free.
When we begin the procedure, we will cover your face with a numbing cream. This will numb your face for the duration of the procedure.
We will then use a microneedling device to pierce tiny holes in the upper layer of your skin. This procedure alone is a great cosmetic treatment that we offer here at DentoBeauty.
Microneedling is what is known as a “collagen induction therapy”.
This is because by creating tiny amounts of localised trauma to the upper layer of skin, the body will naturally send collagen to these areas which promotes healing and cell redevelopment.
Now we combine all the benefits of microneedling with the benefits of platelet rich plasma therapy by rubbing the PRP into your skin as we run the microneedling device over your face.
This directly injects your plasma into the upper layer of skin.
Upon re-injection the platelets release their growth factors which trigger surrounding cells to proliferate, in turn stimulating repair, increasing volume and rejuvenating the skin.
After Treatment
Immediately after treatment, you probably won’t feel much as you will still be feeling the effects of the numbing cream. But as the day goes on, you may feel your skin tighten. This is because you still have the plasma gel on your face and it is drying out.
You need to stay out of direct sunlight and avoid washing your face as this will wash off the plasma. Also try not to smoke or drink alcohol.
Your face will be red, but that’s ok, it means your skin has some healing to do, and now it gets to do it using the platelet rich plasma that your body provided for us.
The redness can last up to 3 days, but most patients report the redness going away during the day after treatment.
