Our Dental Hygienist Procedures
Classic Scale and Polish
Our classic scale and polish procedure involves scaling with electric scrapers and hand instruments if necessary.
We will get all-around your mouth and in those hard-to-reach places to make sure your teeth are completely clean.
Polishing is done with a rotating brush or rubber polisher with a special toothpaste to bring out the natural shine of your freshly cleaned teeth.
Scaling cleans above and below the gum line. If you have gum disease or too many tartar deposits you may require a deeper clean with our Diamond Clean treatment or our gum disease treatment.
A classic scale and polish session costs £65.
Diamond Clean Treatment
Our Diamond Clean treatment involves everything included in the simple scale and polish plus an airflow polishing treatment.
Airflow technology delivers a controlled stream of fine powder particles to the tooth surface through water spray and compressed air.
Having your teeth air polished with the airflow system has a number of therapeutic advantages including the removal of dental plaque, which helps to prevent gingivitis and periodontal disease around natural teeth and implants.
Airflow polishing is fantastic at removing staining from the tooth surface and is particularly useful prior to the bonding of orthodontic brackets.
Airflow polishing is not usually used as a stand-alone treatment, but it is a valuable part of our routine dental hygienist appointments.
Towards the end of your oral hygiene appointment and while still in the dental chair, the hygienist will methodically air polish individual teeth, which will involve a jet of high-pressure water and airflow powder.
Even in the presence of great oral hygiene, over time we all develop staining on the tooth surface. Staining can originate from pigmented foods such as chili con carne and curries, drinks such as tea and coffee, and habits such as smoking.
Airflow polishing is an extremely effective way of improving your smile and helps maintain a healthy mouth.
Although this treatment is not a tooth whitening therapy, the airflow polish stain removal will significantly improve tooth brightness and instantly give you a noticeably sparkling, fresh, healthy mouth and teeth.
A Diamond Clean session costs £110.
Gum Disease Treatment
Our gum disease treatment involves a mechanical deep clean known as Root Surface Debridement, or RSD.
This involves the careful removal of deposits of plaque and calculus from the root surfaces.
The aim of root surface debridement is to get deep into the periodontal pocket to clean the root surface and remove bacterial toxins that will help to prevent the spread of gum disease.
The procedure is carried out under local anesthesia for patient comfort using hand instruments and an ultrasonic device. Depending on severity, you may need more than one session.
In some cases, the procedure may be followed by adjunctive therapy which involves local delivery of antimicrobials which, if needed, is an extra charge that will be discussed at the treatment.
A gum disease deep clean and polish session costs £150.
The Importance of Oral Health
All our hygienist appointments also include checking your oral hygiene and giving you the best advice that suits you to keep your gums and teeth healthy.
Your hygienist will inform you if you need a deep clean or more sessions are needed due to the amount of plaque and tartar deposits.
If your gums bleed when you brush you may have early gum disease.
Regular scaling helps to stop the disease from getting worse, and it helps to eliminate the disease when combined with a thorough cleaning at home.
Bad breath is often caused by gum disease. Regular scaling, and cleaning your teeth thoroughly at home, can help prevent this.
